Theomachy Kickstarter

theomachy

A co-production of Petersen Games and Historical Games Factory, Theomachy is a deck-building game that combines elements of mythology and Texas Hold’em Poker. Each player chooses to represent an ancient god, decides to call, raise or fold, and aims to stand as the absolute power in the final showdown.

In the current Kickstarter campaign, the game is divided into two sets, namely The Warrior Gods and The Ancient. The former includes pantheons from Celtic, Norse, Slavonic, and Lovecraft’s Great Old Ones, while the latter represents Greek, Babylonian, Egyptian, and Lovecraft’s Outer Gods. The two sets are different from each other but can be mixed and combined for play.

Theomachy plays 2 to 4 players (up to 8 players if both The Warrior Gods and The Ancient sets are used) in around 45 minutes. The campaign has now raised $38,911 over its initial $20,000 goal with 32 days to go.

R.A. Salvatore Launches Kickstarter for Solo Play RPG

R.A. Salvatore DemonWar- AllheartFantasy writer R.A. Salvatore, best known for his novels based on the Forgotten Realms campaign in Dungeons & Dragons, just launched a Kickstarter campaign for the first expansion to his popular DemonWars: Reformation tabletop role-playing game, which was successfully funded on Kickstarter last August.

The AllHeart campaign is designed specifically for small-group, or even solo play, which is something rarely heard of in the world of tabletop RPGs.

R.A. Salvatore and his band of merry game makers is seeking crowdfunding to get the game ready for mass production. You can back the campaign with a base pledge of $25 for a digital copy, or $45 for a hardback book, plus a digital copy.

The game will feature a random dungeon generator, which will allow a player to create and play through an entire dungeon without the need of a game master.

The jousting system will allow players to set up and play through tournaments by using their character as one of the jousters. If the game consists of you and a bunch of NPCs, the results are determined by a single die roll.

The Fiefdom system allows the player to manage a small village, growing it into a full-fledged city.

These systems can be played as a stand-alone mini game, or incorporated into a DemonWars campaign. Players will need the DemonWars: Reformation Core Rule Book, or the DemonWars Basic Rule Book in order to play this expansion game.

Shipping is expected in November of 2015.

Second Look—Kromore Roleplaying Game

Second Look - Boardgame reviews in depth. Check out that cat.I don’t know if it’s a Kickstarter curse, or not, but this is the second roleplaying game coming off a successful Kickstarter project that just felt a bit too rushed. While Kromore’s world and mechanics are much, much better than my previously reviewed Traveller 5, the spelling and grammatical errors in the book were jarring. More than a few times I’d get in a good groove reading only to be halted by the how something was written, or by some other error. The first paragraph of the rules was enough to make me have to read it several times over to make sure it wasn’t just my eyes playing tricks on me.

RGK0001 altThat being said, the book impressed me in may ways. The world of Kromore, the characters, mechanics, art, and “completeness” of the book make me think that a bit more editing of the content would have made this system shoot out of the gate like a rocket. That magic system alone is worth the cost of the book.

The mish-mash of content in the book may turn off some readers, but I kind of liked all the options provided within. It brought me a certain sense of nostalgia, and it’s one I can certainly see running a campaign in.

Love Letter: Batman and The Hobbit

AEG5113bannerWe’ve already warned you about Love Letter: Batman, but Alderac Entertainment will be releasing Love Letter: Batman, and Love Letter: The Hobbit too, in March for $10.99 each. Round up the villains of Gotham and lock ’em up in Arkham Asylum, or find The Arkenstone while avoiding the terrible dragon Smaug.

While I see the appeal of both versions, I’ll stick to my Love Letter – Kanai Factory Edition.
