Millionaire Chess, the Las Vegas Chess tournament with a million dollar prize fund, is doubling down for its next event, October 8-12. In addition to the general prize fund of $1 million, to be shared among the top finishers in multiple rating divisions, another $1 million prize will be up for grabs by one single competitor.
Of course it being Las Vegas, this bonus prize will feature an element of chance. On the final day of the tournament, the winners of each of the nine rating divisions will join in some not-yet-specified game of strategy [King of Tokyo perhaps?]. The winner of that contest will then get to choose from among 64 envelopes, only one of which holds the million dollar prize.
Registration for Millionaire Chess is open and continues up to the day before the event. The fee, though, rises July 1st from $1,250 to $1,500.
