Crowdfunding Highlights

Scott Almes’ Heroes of Land, Air & Sea is much bigger than the Tiny Epic games he’s designed, but retains the epic-ness. In this 4X boardgame set in a fantasy world, 1-4 players try to take over as much as possible, collecting resources, building structures, and conquering regions. The base game from Gamelyn Games comes with four factions, the 5-6 player expansion comes with four more factions. The base game is a reward for a $79 pledge while a $139 pledge gets you that and the expansion next March. Is it already funded? Each box comes with 80 miniatures: of course it’s already funded.

Are you a fan of the series of games where villagers trying to uncover werewolves in their midst? You’ll want to check out Werewolf Coins by Home Run Games, where roles are stamped onto twenty-eight (base set: more added as stretch goals) different quarter-sized coins, fitting in a synthetic suede pouch. Um. That’s pretty much it. They’ll retail for $30 for the base set, but you can get one as a reward this summer for a $22 pledge to make the product happen. Will it happen? As I type this, they’ve blown past their goal by 2500%.

Dude. Ties. With d20s on them. Do I need to write more? A $15 pledge gets you a d20 tie in red, black, or blue in July. Again, already funded, with about $2500 of the $1000 needed to make this product happen. If Kaleb Mankey gets up to $3000 in backer support, they’ll add yet another color to the line. Unsurprisingly, we’re hoping for purple.

Looking to upgrade those wooden shapes in your games? Meeple Source (a past advertiser on Purple Pawn, although that doesn’t weigh into us highlighting them this week), has painted upgraded wooden tokens and custom-shaped pieces for games such as Camel Up, Pandemic, Colt Express, Above and Below, Catan, Carcassone, and more. Reward levels start with pledges as low as $10 for a single-color set for some games with expected delivery times of October and December of this year.

TEKHeroesCallJust announced, Tiny Epic Kingdoms: Heroes’ Call will expand the base game with new factions, new regions, new mechanics, and new components. The flavor text from the expansion is as follows:

The war continues and spreads further and further. New factions have arrived from the north igniting more epic battles than before. Heroes rise over the fallen bodies of their enemies. Kingdoms spread across the frozen wastelands in search of resources. War towers grow taller than the trees. Who will be victorious in the end?

Currently still in development, the expansion is expected to hit Kickstarter in 2016.

Tiny Epic Galaxies Hits Kickstarter

It’s kind of funny how I was just writing about the upcoming release of Tiny Epic Defenders, then Gamelyn games hits me up via email with their press release for the Tiny Epic Galaxies Kickstarter! This time the 30 minute pocket game takes on a sci-fi theme and has players trying to become the most powerful galaxy in the universe. Note that this isn’t just a retheme of Tiny Epic Kingdoms, but a whole new game with fresh and interesting looking mechanics.

The best part about this whole project? It’s already funded! Pledge $16 to ensure yourself a copy of the base game, or $24 for the deluxe version that has some Kickstarter exclusives.

Gamelyn has been on a roll in my books, so I’m super excited to get my hands on this and give it a whirl.

GSGMGTINY02Coming in March, Tiny Epic Defenders is a followup game set in the world of Tiny Epic Kingdoms. The game is cooperative, having players band together to ward off a horde of monstrous foes. I’ve actually got a review copy of the game sitting right here, and hope to have a write up of it soon!

Tiny Epic Defenders is for 1-4 players ages 13+, and plays in 30 minutes. The MSRP will be $25.

Tiny Epic Kingdoms

GSGLYTINY01An entire 4X game in a pocket-sized package and a MSRP of $25? That’s Tiny Epic Kindgoms. Put out by Gamelyn Games, and distributed by Game Salute, Tiny Epic Kingdoms has you play through an entire 4X game in only 60 minutes. Players take control of different factions, each with different technology trees and abilities, and work to “eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate” (the 4x model.) The first to build a great tower to protect their realm wins.

After a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign, the game is finally hitting shelves on October 31st.
