Welcome to Purple Pawn, covering games played around the world by billions of people every day.
Having already converted its biggest properties in to the non-collectible Living Card Game format, Fantasy Flight Games has decided to abandon CCGs entirely. The company has already stopped production of new cards for Universal Fighting System and Kingdom Hearts and will not be providing further support for organized play programs in either of these games. The collectible games category is an increasingly tough business, where success currently seems to require a large scale international marketing campaign, media tie-ins, or a unique toy component. In a statement announcing the move, Fantasy Flight acknowledged:
Over the course of the past two years, we have had to accept the difficult truth that the CCG market was heading for collapse. Like it or not, the CCG market is defined by Magic: The Gathering plus a small handful of others that are primarily kid-centric, focusing on a few well-established cartoon properties and anime characters.
