The International Mind Sports Association may think that poker is a game of skill, but that hasn’t stopped countries, states, and counties from banning organized or online poker endeavors. Often, these bans appear to simply be a means of protecting government-run poker operations from competition.

Switzerland has now banned poker tournaments outside of casinos; private games are still allowed. Hungary simply banned all poker outside of casinos, and this appears to cover private games as well. Norway banned all online gambling transactions. So did Poland. The Dutch have already banned online gambling, but the ban is under attack.
